The Outreach tool in the Bushel Staff Portal allows you to communicate directly with farmers via Email, SMS, and Push Notifications. Use this tool to send timely updates about spray schedules, location updates, or community events.
📋 Viewing Your Notifications
The main dashboard provides a bird’s-eye view of all outgoing communications.
-
Status Indicators:
SCHEDULED: Notifications set to go out at a future date/time.SENT: Completed communications.
Expand for Details: Click the down arrow (∨) on any notification row to see the full message content, recipient breakdown, and engagement links.
📤 Sending a New Notification
To start a new communication:
Click the + New notification button in the top right corner.
-
Select Recipients: You can send to individuals, all farmers that do business with a specific location, predefined groups, or use our "send to all" feature.
Outreach allows you to target just one or a handful of customers at a time. You can manage your customer contact information using Bushel's CRM.
-
Sending to a location will send to all users that are linked to the location via their ERP account data.
If desired, we can also configure location-based notifications to send to users that have favorited a location.
Groups allow you to target specific CRM customers via their preferred channel. Learn more about how to manage customer groups in CRM.
"Send to all" will notify all of your mobile app users, whether logged in or not, plus all customers in your CRM.
-
Choose Channels: Select one or multiple delivery methods:
SMS: Best for urgent, short alerts.
Push Notification: Appears directly on the farmer's mobile device.
Email: Best for detailed updates with links.
-
Compose Message: Enter your subject line and body text. If your notification includes a call to action, you can add Button Text and a URL Link.
Links will be sent via all 3 channels, but button text will only apply to email and push notifications.
Clicking "next" on the compose screen will bring you to a review page that includes an overview of SMS Cost. Learn more about costs associated with sending SMS via Outreach.
Understanding Marketing vs. Transactional Notifications
Sending a notification from the Outreach tool is considered a "marketing" notification. Marketing notifications carry different rules than "transactional" ones that result from business activities.

⏰ Scheduling & Editing
You don't have to send messages immediately. You can plan your communication calendar in advance.
To Schedule: Within the "New Notification" screen, use the Schedule field to select a specific date, time, and time zone (e.g., 05/01/26 at 8:00 am CT).
To Edit a Scheduled Notification: Click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the right side of the notification row. You can edit the content, change the delivery time, or delete the notification entirely.
Viewing Notification Details: Once expanded, the Details section will show you exactly how many people will receive the message across each channel (e.g., Email (100), SMS (250)).
🔒 Managing Access
Access to sending notifications can be assigned either across the entire organization, or to specific locations.
- Assigning organization level access allows:
- Use of the "send to all" feature which targets all users that have used your app (logged in or not).
- Ability to target any location, group, or individual customer.
- Edit access to any scheduled notification or group.
- Users with location level access are restricted in the following ways:
- They can send and schedule new notifications, but can only see and edit ones they created.
- They can create new groups, but can only edit and view their own groups.
- Cannot use "send to all", and can only target locations they have access to.
